Advancing Representation, One Wikipedia Page at a Time
Female Artist’s Page Out of Date
This year, To the Point Collaborative had the pleasure of working with award-winning installation artist T.S. to bring her Wikipedia page up to date.
Although T.S. and her most recent exhibits have been well-covered in the media, key information was missing from her page. Volunteer editors didn’t seem to have her page on their radar, which is why it had become out of date.
Unfortunately, this isn’t unusual. Many women and other underrepresented groups face this challenge. Despite recognition in the real world, their presence on Wikipedia can remain incomplete. In some cases, they may not have a presence at all.
Wikipedia’s Equity Representation Bias
Wikipedia lacks equitable representation of women, people of color, trans people, and nonbinary individuals, and has long struggled with bias.
Despite being one of the most visited sources of information on the internet, many groups, topics and voices remain underrepresented. Thankfully, projects within the Wikipedia community are working to address this gap. And so is To the Point Collaborative.
T.S.’s page is one example of working to shift this imbalance.
Trusted by T.S.
Helping T.S. wasn’t just rewarding — it was meaningful. We believe that when everyone’s contributions are equitably represented, we all benefit. Here’s what T.S. had to say about her experience working with us:
“Working with To the Point Collaborative, and specifically with Kendall as our dedicated Wikipedia editor, has been such an amazing experience! The team is communicative and extremely knowledgeable about the ethics and best practices of editing Wikipedia pages.
“Important information about my work was missing from my Wikipedia page, and it hadn’t been added by the collective volunteer community. Thanks to Kendall’s expertise and the To the Point team, my page finally feels accurate and up to date. I’ve already referred two other clients to them because I trust how they work and the care they put into everything they do.
“You would be lucky to work with them! If you’ve been thinking about updating your digital footprint and online presence, I highly recommend reaching out. To the Point Collaborative is truly the best in the field.”
